Pink kit is tribute to Mr Football

-

HINCKLEY AFC players wore their special edition pink kit for the final time in their game against Uttoxeter Town.

The kit, which was made to commemorate World Cancer Day earlier this month, featured pink shirts and shorts, with the name of Simon Blyth on the back.

Simon, dubbed Mr Football due to his support and passion for the local game with Hinckley Athletic, Hinckley United and latterly Hinckley AFC, died in January following a battle with cancer.

The 50-year-old was remem- bered during three triumphant AFC games, Cadbury Athletic, Stafford Town and the most recent, a 6-2 win home win against Uttoxeter.

The last match also saw the community club release pink balloons at the start of the match in tribute to Simon as well as organise a big raffle which featured more than 60 prizes donated from club partners and local businesses.

Players kits have been auctioned off and replicas have also been on sale from the club shop for £20.
