Young gymnasts in the medals at county-wide competitio­n

BUDDING gymnasts from Hinckley showed off their skills when they battled against other students in the Leicesters­hire Level 7 and 6 Individual Apparatus Championsh­ips 2017.

Held at Leicester’s New College, around 70 competitor­s from many clubs from across Leicesters­hire took part in the competitio­n with Hinckley and Burbage Gymnastics Club putting forward 12 gymnasts competing for medals.

The competitio­n was split into two events: Level 7 gymnasts starting the day followed by a medal presentati­on.

Then after a short break the Level 6 gymnasts had their chance to perform.

The event was to find the best gymnasts on each piece of apparatus.

Gymnasts are groups and ability.

Gymnasts begin at Level 7 and any gymnasts that gained the past split into age markinthep­reviousyea­rcompete at level 6.

A club spokespers­on said: “It was the first competitio­n of the year for the girls.

“We had a great day with many gymnasts performing for the first time.

“The club came away with many medals across the age groups and levels. A big well done to all who competed on the day.

“A big thank you to all the vol- unteers from the club, Judging, Coaching and helping run the event.” Highlights from Level 7 In the ages eight and nine category, Ursula Szafranek-Murray was first on vault and floor and second on beam; Emma Wallis was first on beam and third on floor; Lexie Hawkins came third on vault and beam and second on floor; finally, Grace McCarty third on vault and bars.

In the ages 10 and 11 category Ruby Hollis was third on vault and second on bars. Highlights from Level 6 In the ages eight and nine category Scarlett Carter came second on bars and second on floor.

In the ages 10 and 11 field, Brooke Shilcock was first on bars and second on beam.

Alicia Guintoli came first on vault, bars and floor and Kaitlyn Bateman was first on floor and third on beam in the age 12 and 13 category.
