Former BBC duo plead not guilty

-

TWO radio presenters have denied outraging public decency after allegedly having sex against a tree in full view of a group of young boys.

Married couple Tony and Julie Wadsworth, who have both worked for BBC Radio Leicester and Birmingham-based BBC WM, also pleaded not guilty to offences of indecent assault during a hearing at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday morning.

Julie Wadsworth, 59, and her 69-year-old husband, from Broughton Astley, will stand trial in May after denying a string of offences alleged to have been committed between July 1992 and August 1999.

Mrs Wadsworth, who uses the surname Mayer on air, pleaded not guilty to five counts of outraging pub- lic decency and 12 charges of indecent assault.

The charges of indecent assault against Mrs Wadsworth, relating to seven boys, allege that she touched the complainants, including on an occasion when her husband “kept watch” and had a camera in his possession.

Mr Wadsworth denies committing 10 indecent assaults by allegedly keeping watch for his wife.

All five charges of outraging public decency allege that the couple engaged in sexual activity “against a tree” in an area of parkland in view of others.

Both defendants were granted bail to reappear for trial at Warwickshire Justice Centre in Leamington Spa on May 15.
