G&S and John Denver at lunch concert
AN UPLIFTING programme is promised by soprano Christine Edwards and pianist Chris Howard when they perform a lunchtime concert in St Mary’s Church, Hinckley.
The recital on Wednesday April 5, from 1pm to 1.45pm, is part of a spring series hosted by St Mary’s Arts (Smarts).
Pieces to be performed range from John Denver’s Perhaps Love and some cheery tunes from Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, to Marcellina’s Aria from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Gabriel Fauré’s Nell.
A member of Stanley Opera, Christine also sings with the Leicester Philharmonic Choir.
Awarded a diploma for recital performance by the Trinity Guildhall College of Music in London in 2008, she has performed most principal G&S soprano roles as well as operatic roles in La Boheme, Carmen and the title role in Aida among others.
Pianist Chris has worked with Stanley Opera including providing arrangements for several of their operatic productions at Hinckley’s Concordia Theatre.
TV and radio work has included regular appearances on Songs of Praise and as former head of music at Coventry Blue Coat CofE School, he co-founded the Blue Coat Choir which went on to be a winner of the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir competition.
Admission to the lunchtime performance costs £4 for adults and £1 for children and students on the door.
People may take along a packed lunch to eat before or after the recital, with hot drinks avilable from the church coffee bar.
