G&S and John Denver at lunch concert

AN UPLIFTING programme is promised by soprano Christine Edwards and pianist Chris Howard when they perform a lunchtime concert in St Mary’s Church, Hinckley.

The recital on Wednesday April 5, from 1pm to 1.45pm, is part of a spring series hosted by St Mary’s Arts (Smarts).

Pieces to be performed range from John Denver’s Perhaps Love and some cheery tunes from Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, to Marcellina’s Aria from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Gabriel Fauré’s Nell.

A member of Stanley Opera, Christine also sings with the Leicester Philharmon­ic Choir.

Awarded a diploma for recital performanc­e by the Trinity Guildhall College of Music in London in 2008, she has performed most principal G&S soprano roles as well as operatic roles in La Boheme, Carmen and the title role in Aida among others.

Pianist Chris has worked with Stanley Opera including providing arrangemen­ts for several of their operatic production­s at Hinckley’s Concordia Theatre.

TV and radio work has included regular appearance­s on Songs of Praise and as former head of music at Coventry Blue Coat CofE School, he co-founded the Blue Coat Choir which went on to be a winner of the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir competitio­n.

Admission to the lunchtime performanc­e costs £4 for adults and £1 for children and students on the door.

People may take along a packed lunch to eat before or after the recital, with hot drinks avilable from the church coffee bar.
