Meet your new trainee reporter
WE HAVE a new reporter on The Hinckley Times team.
Nicholas Dawson, 24, is originally from Northampton and previously worked in magazines.
He said: “It’s always been my dream to get into local newspapers. I am hugely excited to be working here.”
Nicholas graduated from the University of Roehampton in London two years ago, with a first-class degree in Journalism and Spanish.
He also has a post-graduate qualification with the Press Association.
His first media role was during his university year abroad, updating the website for Hello! magazine in Madrid. He speaks Spanish fluently.
He also did some investigative reporting in his final university term, digging into proposals for a major regeneration project on a council estate.
Inspired by his time in Spain, he also ran a radio show in his final year about international students and music.
After finishing his training, he wrote for a magazine based near Oxford for 10 months, before returning to London. There he reported largely on the London Underground for a year, before coming to work with the paper.
Nicholas added: “In an increasingly autonomous age, local news is vital for informing people about what’s going on in their neighbourhood.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the area in depth and hearing your stories.”
In his spare time, Nicholas enjoys reading philosophy and novels.
He also likes taking long walks in the country and trying his hand at cooking new dishes.
