Check your venue if you plan to vote
SOME voting station locations will be changing this May when the county council elections take place.
A polling place review took place in 2014 but since then some venues have become unavailable while operators of other centres have made requests to skip out this time round.
Most stations remain the same.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Councillors agreed to the amendments at a meeting yesterday, Tuesday March 21.
In Barwell the indoor bowling club on Kirkby Road is being swapped for the George Ward Centre on Church Lane.
The George Ward Centre was used for the EU referen- dum with no issue as the bowling centre was too small for a split polling station which was required at the time.
A report to councillors also mentions that when used as a polling station the club requires outside lighting costing £340 each time.
The demolition of the Burbage Methodist Church on Windsor Street means it can’t be used so extra use is being made of Burbage Millennium Hall which is already a default station.
The church will return to polling station duties once rebuilt.
Heathfield Academy in Belle Vue Road Earl Shilton has closed and merged with William Bradford so the newly established Heath Lane Academy building in Heath Lane will be used.
The new village hall in Stanton Under Bardon takes over from the youth centre because it is more central, has better parking facilities and good accessibility.
Schoolchildren and teachers who would have got a day off at Dove Bank Primary School in Bagworth Road, Nailstone, will be disappointed.
To prevent the school having to shut the village’s polling station will be Nailstone All Saints Church in Church Road, which has improved facilities.
Requests to the borough council for the changes have come from key stakeholders including parish clerks, members of the public and the polling stations themselves.
Leicestershire County Council will be footing the cost of running the elections.
