Roald Dahl play to be festive show
LEICESTER’S Curve theatre has announced a new production of a much-loved children’s book for its Christmas show.
Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine, co-produced by Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston, will run in the 300-seat studio from Saturday December 9 to Sunday January 14. It follows the success of previous shows Fantastic Mr Fox, The Twits and The Witches.
Featuring growing grannies, feathery farm animals and bags of phizzwhizzing fun, tickets to George’s Marvellous Medicine are now on priority sale to Curve Members and groups, and on general release from Friday, March 24, alongside the theatre’s full summer season, which has also been unveiled.
The summer season starts with Curve Young Company in Tim Etchells’ Status Update on Wednesday and Thursday April 5 and 6.
Directed by Curve’s Youth Theatre Director John Berkavitch, it is presented as part of Connections 2017 - the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools.
Circus fans can enjoy an in-theround performance by Ockham’s Razor in their award-winning show, Tipping Point, in the Studio on Friday and Saturday April 21 and 22.
Hindustani vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty also comes to the Curve on Saturday April 22 for a double-event presented by Shruti Arts, including a full-length concert and pre-show Q&A.
There’s lots for children and families to enjoy in May. Spark Festival returns to the theatre with four new shows from Tuesday to Saturday May 23 to 27, followed by Milkshake! Live: The Magic Story Book on Wednesday May 31.
An all-singing, all-dancing musical journey through the world’s favourite fairytales, it will feature characters including Bob the Builder, Little Princess, Noddy and Fireman Sam, plus Milkshake!’s very own Milkshake! Monkey and two Milkshake! presenters
Following the release of T2 Trainspotting earlier this year, In Your Face Theatre present Trainspotting Live, from Tuesday to Saturday June 20 to 24.
Famous for creating entertaining shows that mix the show-stopping acrobatics of circus with the emotional punch of theatre, Barely Methodical Troupe (previously seen at Curve in Bromance) return to Leicester in Kin, from Friday June 30 and Saturday July 1.
Two National Youth companies will be performing at Curve during the season. On Saturday July 8, National Youth Dance Company present their latest production, Tarantiseismic, choreographed by Guest Artistic Director Damien Jalet.
Following the success of 2015’s Sweet Charity and last year’s Spring Awakening, Associate Artists National Youth Music Theatre will be returning to the Studio in a world premiere production of Billy the Kid, from Sunday July 23 to Wednesday July 26.The newly announced productions join a summer season already filled with a variety of drama, dance and musical theatre.
