Juniors impress on an individual level

THERE was more success for Hinckley based juniors from the Barlestone and Barwell George Ward clubs at the Leicester League Individual Championsh­ips.

In the junior boys’ event Barlestone’s Adam Pettitt was runner up to county number one Jack Rogers but then went on to collect the Boys Intermedia­te event defeating his old rival Aman Rashid 11-7 in the fifth to lift the crown. He followed this up by also winning the senior handicap event, defeating Barry Taylor (Hugglescot­e Rams) in the final.

In the Under 15 Boys Jack Roger beat Abdul Shaihk, both from Leicester, but the losing semifinali­sts were from Barwell George Ward, Jack Dennis and Matt Wynne.

Edward Brown (G Ward) took the Under 13 title by beating Oscar Bentley. Ollie Wynne (G Ward) was one of the losing semifinali­sts.

George Moore (G Ward) who only joined the club recently and has only been playing a few months reached the last four of the Under 11 event.

In the Handicap Team Challenge round one ties there were some close matches. Cat A, who have come good in the second half of the season, overcame a depleted G Ward B 5-4 to go through to the quarter finals, Danny Whittaker and Richard Chesters winning two each for G Ward.

G Ward E overcame Cat F 7-2, Dave Richardson winning all his games for G Ward. Steve Burrage collecting the two for Cat F. Edward Brown and Callum Dale both G Ward won their other matches.

G Ward A beat Nalgo in a very close match 5-4 at Nalgo, Pete White (Nalgo) defeating Derek Thompson (GW) 31-30 in a very tight game. Mark Perkins (GW) overcame Steve Brough’s handicap to claim the victory in the final set finally winning 31-28.

Barlestone A had a comfortabl­e 9-0 win over Cat G and Cat E went through against G Ward D.

The quarter finals are due to be played in the week commencing April 3.
