St George’s Day celebrations in Hinckley
THE BUNTING is already up and flapping as final preparations get underway to celebrate St George’s Day in Hinckley town centre.
England’s national day is Sunday April 23 but this year events are going on between 10am and 2pm on Saturday April 22 to take advantage of the weekend market and Saturday shoppers.
Entertainment and activities for the whole family is planned including Morris dancing, Punch and Judy, a ceilidh band, children’s crafts and activities, free giveaways and colourful children’s character Snappy the Dragon. All activities are free.
Shops, restaurants and pubs in the town centre will also be hosting their own fun and frolics. Broood at The Prince of Wales on Coventry Road is one outlet set to put on St George’s Day themed activities and entertainment from around 1pm.
St George and patriotic fancy dress is encouraged and there will be a prize available for the best costume.
There will also be the traditional scouting parade through the town with around 300 children and young people processing from Argents Mead at 1pm. The parade is organised by the Hinckley District Scouting Association.
This marks the 12th year Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, supported by the Town Centre Partnership, has organised events to celebrate St George’s Day.
