Fond farewell to doctor after 35 years

-

A BELOVED and ‘dependable’ family doctor is retiring after working for more than 35 years at a Hinckley practice.

Dr Nicholas Willmott first joined Castle Mead surgery in 1979, after completing his GP training and spending a year in Australia and Cambodia.

He went on to become a senior partner at the surgery, also representing Hinckley and Bosworth on the West Leicestershire Commissioning Group board.

Alison Ellis, practice manager at Castle Mead, said that both staff and patients would miss him.

She said: “We will miss so much about him, as a senior partner, work colleague and dependable, dedicated doctor, sometimes coming in to work when he was feeling sicker than the patients he is seeing.

“He is the ‘go to’ doctor who staff can depend on for getting a prescription signed in a hurry, and is laid-back in his approach to staff. (A) lovely man to work with.

“He has had a foot in the door of so many NHS secondary, primary and social care organisations, where he champions good clinical care for all patients.

“At our practice and locality meetings, he is an amazing source of information and feeds back what he has learnt to enable others to make informed choices on a whole variety of issues.

“Our patients will miss him, they have grown up with him and he knows all their family. Some amazing comments have been left in the message books we have put out for him in both receptions at the main and branch surgery in Stoke Golding.

“We hope he has many years to do what he enjoys most with his lovely family.”

Dr Willmott will be staying on the West Leicestershire Commissioning Group board until the end of July, before retiring completely and moving to Jersey, where he will spend time sailing and enjoying trips on his yacht.
