Friends take on the peaks

-

A GROUP of fitness enthusiasts from Hinckley are climbing the UK’s three highest mountains.

The friends are climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in Wales, all within 24 hours.

While training, they are also raising money for local charities A Gift to Lift, a blood cancer charity, and hospice group LOROS.

They held a curry night at the Leeja Restaurant on Castle Street, which almost 50 people attended, raising £354.

Chris Masters, organiser, said: “We had a fantastic night, We held a raffle which proved absolutely hilarious.

“It really is fantastic to have so many people turn out and support these great local charities.”

Local businesses donated some of the raffle prizes.

The friends all go to the Re Fitness studios in Parsons Lane, where they will host a race night on May 13.

Some of the team went up Snowdon a few weeks ago for a trial run.

Chris said: “Conditions were dreadful. It was so foggy that visibility probably wasn’t much over 10 metres towards the top.

“There was also plenty of rain. Even in the poor conditions we managed to get up and down in a little over four hours.

“I’m quietly confident the team will be able to complete the challenge.”
