Thanks to all the customers of superstore for their generosity

-

I WOULD just like to thank the customers of Tesco in Hinckley (the Superstore off Hawley Road) for their generous donations when we had a can collection for Dogs for Good on Saturday April 1. We raised a brilliant £223.54 for this life-transforming charity.

Dogs for Good is a national charity who train assistance dogs for adults and children with a range of physical disabilities, and children with autism; community dogs to work with specialist handlers in special educational needs schools and communities; and, the Family Dog team who give advice and support for people to get the most out of the relationship with their pet dog.

To find out more about the charity, visit www.dogsforgood.org.

Some readers may have ‘seen me about’ – my assistance dog (Frodo) retired recently and I am currently ‘ between dogs’. It costs about £20,000 to train each assistance dog and disabled person, and sup- port them throughout their time together – the donations we received from the can collection mean a great deal.

I am co-treasurer of the Leicestershire Dogs for Good Supporters’ Group. Our main aim is to raise funds, and awareness, for this amazing charity – last year, we raised a fantastic £2510.29.

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers. If you want to find out more about what we do, please email wheeliewitty@icloud.com.

On Saturday June 17, it is the charity’s annual Fun Day at Stoneleigh Park, in Warwickshire. This is open to the public and well-behaved pet dogs on leads. There will be demonstrations, have-a-go activities for you and your dog, a craft fair and lots more. It promises to be a great family day out. You can find out more information by visiting the charity’s website.

Once again, a huge ‘thank you’ to the people of Hinckley.
