House building and road traffic signs of overcrowding

-

I READ with interest the letter on March 29 by the unnamed correspondent about the supposed benefits of migration. In this, I am asked what actual hard evidence that this nation is overcrowded. Well, the evidence is there for all to see.

The figures for immigration into the UK in 2016 are 273,000, which is only a slight drop from some 330,000 the previous year.

That represents, as was mentioned in a previous letter, almost the population of the city of Leicester entering Britain every year. With reference to Leicester itself, its population has risen by 47,000 in 10 years and much of this population growth can be ascribed to migration.

With about 1,000 houses planned for Hinckley and Bosworth it is impossible to not make a connection with this as people move out of overcrowded cities such as Leicester.

The destruction of our green belt and expansion of road traffic are all indicative of an overcrowded nation.

I would also like to reiterate my earlier question.

It may well be true that the majority of Muslims identify with Britain. However, why are 85 sharia courts ranging across the country so necessary and why do they need their own theocratic legal system anyway? British people residing in countries such as Saudi Arabia are bound by the medieval constraints of sharia.

Yes, FGM is certainly an abhorrent practice, but just because it happens elsewhere does not mean we have to tolerate it in Britain.

Due to a combination of political correctness and fear of extremism we seem to be turning a blind eye to practices which have no place in a humane society.

I rest my case. Dick Hayball
