Here is Wonderful Hinckley’s guide to events taking place this year in and around the town

FROM the rainbow Colourfun Mile to food festivals and the ever-popular Soap Box Derby, there’s plenty to look forward to in Hinckley over the next few months.

As the weather gets warmer and the sun starts to shine, the town centre will be bursting with fun activities and events for the whole family to enjoy.

Here, we share the important dates to mark down in your diaries for 2017 – the ones that are simply not to be missed.

Tuesday 11 April to Tuesday 18 April, Hinckley Town Centre Easter Bunny Hunt Perfect fun for the little ones, the town’s sixth annual Easter bunny hunt will see bunnies hidden in locations across Hinckley centre. Simply find the bunny names, fill in a form – available on the Hinckley BID website – and receive a free Easter egg.

Friday April 14, from 11am, St Peter’s Church Good Friday March of

Witness Leaving St Peter’s Church at 11am, the Churches Together celebratio­n includes churches from both Hinckley and Burbage, and will end in a short service in Market Place. For more informatio­n, email John Moore at johnpatmoo­re@ntlworld.com

Saturday April 22, 10am-2pm, Hinckley Town Centre St George’s Day & Scout Parade Enjoy patriotic fun for the entire family, with a riot of colourful events to celebrate St George’s Day. There will be Morris dancers, a scout parade, street performers, and plenty of activities for children. The Scout parade – the only one in the county - leaves Argents Mead at 1pm and will head up Castle Street towards New Buildings.

Friday April 28, 4pm-5pm, Hollycroft Park Xplorer Puzzle Madness On the last Friday of each month from March through to November, there will be a fun orienteeri­ng challenge for the entire family held in the park, meeting at the Bowling Green entrance. This April, the theme will be Puzzle Madness.

Tuesday May 2 to Saturday May 13, Concordia Theatre

Barnum Musical Enjoy ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ and see why it’s beloved by audiences across the world. This fun, vibrant musical is based on the life of showman P.T. Barnum and will see popular songs such as I Like Your Style and Love Makes Such Fools of Us All performed. Tickets start at £11 and can be purchased by calling Brenda Watts on 07855 746520.

Sunday May 7, 10.30am4.30pm Burbage Common Open Day Escape to the outdoors for the day as Burbage Common hosts its 23rd open day. You can expect to find Maypole dancing, Morris dancers, workshops, plenty of stalls and much, much more.

Saturday May 13, 1pm-3pm Music in the Mead, Argents Mead Bandstand Pack up a picnic and wander into Argents Mead for an afternoon of classic live music, courtesy of Little Boy Blue, a swinging R&B, soul and rock ‘n’ roll band. Saturday May 13, 10am4pm, Hinckley Town Centre Love Hinckley Market Celebrate national Love Your Local Market fortnight with this family fun event. There will be plenty of entertainm­ent and children’s activities to highlight the wonders of Hinckley’s beloved market.

Sunday May 14, 11am-2pm, Argents Mead Feel Good Sunday Come away with a more peaceful, relaxed mind following this event. Experts will be on hand to help you improve your mind, body and spirit – there will also be free parking available.

Thursday May 14, 5pm8.30pm, Market Place, Hinckley Classic Vehicle Meet Petrol heads and classic car owners are being invited to the first Hinckley BID Classic Vehicle Meet of the year. Anyone with a classic motor is welcome to pop along, with entrance from Station Road. The event is free to enter and visit. There will also be a meet on June 15, July 20 and August 17.

Saturday May 27, 1pm-3pm, Sunday May 28 and Monday May 29, 2pm-4pm, Argents Mead Music in the Mead The ever-popular Music in the Mead returns for the bank holiday weekend, with live music by contempora­ry pop artist Ella-May Stanier on Saturday, laid-back acoustic swing band The Cadence on Sunday and, on Monday, Sienna Acoustic will be performing acoustic pop covers.

Saturday May 27 to Monday May 29, Hinckley Town Centre, 10am-4pm

Feast Hinckley Food lovers are being invited to feast at a festival showcasing local food and drink stars, as well as the ever-popular Sunday market. Keep your eyes peeled for more informatio­n closer to the time. There will also be a second feast run on the weekend of Saturday August 12 and Sunday August 13.

Monday June 5 to Sunday June 11 This Girl Can, various locations The campaign to get more girls and women into physical activity will be running again, with plenty of special sessions planned throughout the week. Check social media and The Hinckley Times for more informatio­n closer to the time.

Wednesday June 7, 7pm8.30pm, Hinckley Town Centre

Colourfun Mile Grab your trainers for Hinckley’s most colourful, rainbow event. The Colourfun Mile is returning for its fourth year and will be set to shower everyone in colour, glitter and smiles as they
