Sun brings out the carp as anglers catch bumper haul of fish

THE top four all weighed over 75lbs in Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Open as the carp feed in the sun.

There was another close finish as Mark Sidwells landed eighteen carp from peg 46 to win with a 88lb 12oz catch. Steve Brindley finished just one small carp behind with an 87lb 2oz catch from peg 65. Jonny Harvey came third with 83lb while Aaron Morton finished fourth with 77lb 12ozs.

Higham Lane’s Saturday Open match was a tale of two corners.

Match winner Ian Knowles pole fished his way to a superb 127lb 9oz catch from top corner peg 17. In the bottom corner, peg 25, Mick Linnett also pole fished pellet to finish second with 85lb 9ozs. For the rest sport was hard and Kev Milne needed just four fish to take third place with a 24lb 9oz catch.

Danny Ross enjoyed a good week, recording two wins in local matches. In Maynes Wednesday Open he caught in the margins to beat a big turn out with a 47lb 13oz catch. Results; Pool One, Section One; Bob Sear 36lb 2oz from peg 36. Section Two; Jack Jones 21lb 4oz from peg 35. Pool Two Section Three, Danny Ross from peg 21. Pool Three, Section Four; Pete Whiteby 36lb 6ozs from peg 48.

Danny Ross then won Sundays Brookfield Open contest at their Stoke Golding water. Having won this match the previous week he took the honours again, Fishing pellet and sweet corn baits from peg 3 Danny landed 34lb 8ozs of carp. Ray Lewis came second with a 26lb 3oz catch from peg nine. Stu Campton was third with 25lb 8ozs with Pete West finishing fourth with a 20lb catch.

Higham Lane Fishery Thursday Open was won by Andy Findley from peg 19 who pole fished method feeder tactics produced a 67lb 11oz winning catch. Andy Stewart fished a waggler on peg three to take second place with 57lb 10ozs. Local Tackle dealer Dominic Carino finished third with 38lb 10ozs on pole fished pellet.

There was a battle for top spot in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match between Steve Brindley on peg 77 and Guy Hope on peg 63. It was Steve Brindley who took the honours after Guy lost a carp on the whistle. Steve finishing with 32lb 12ozs while Guy weighed 31lb 4ozs. Ian Shirley came third with a 24lb catch.

Pete White took the honours in Tuesday’s Mill on the Soar Open. Drawn on peg two, Pete pole fished pellet to land 37lb 10ozs of bream and carp. A change of tactic’s in the last hour by Paul Cayless on peg six, saw him catch six carp which pushed him into second pace with a 26lb 5oz final catch. Mick Linnett came third with 19lb 3ozs while Tom Watt finished fourth with a 16lb 10oz catch.

Higham Lane Fishery have Open matches every Thursday draw 9am. Saturdays Open match is the final match before Club match season starts. Again draw at 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches at Stoke Golding on Saturday, draw 9am while on Sunday its a later draw check with Paul for details.

Brookfield have an Open match this Sunday, draw 9am.
