More rubbish dumped in the borough

FLY-TIPPERS have been at work in the borough once more with two huge mounds of rubbish dumped in separate locations.

Piles of household waste and rubble were dumped at Tinsel Lane near Market Bosworth and on open land near Bagworth Heath.

Disgusted residents alerted community representatives to the dumping and highlighted the mess on social media.

Ratby, Bagworth and Thornton ward councillor Chris Boothby was contacted and ordered the launch of an enforcement process.

He said it seemed the borough was being constantly besieged by fly-tippers, adding : “We are going to clear the site up and going to secure the site and will place a charge on the land which the landowner will have to pay in order to gain access once more.

“I don’t see why the taxpayer should have to foot the bill for this clean-up with it being private land. The landowner has a duty of care.”

Planning enforcement officers are involved as a legal process has to be followed before the council can step in and take action.

At Tinsel Lane the removal operations were to be carried out by Leicestershire County Council as the designated landowner. Signs warning of the lane blockage were put out.

The fly-tips are the latest to hit rural stretches of the borough, in particular Market Bosworth and Tinsel Lane.

In December last year three flytips amounting to more than 20 tonnes of construction-related waste were found on the same day, one being at Tinsel Lane.

It took three workmen from the borough council all day, using a mechanical digger and a skip, to remove the rubble from Green Lane, Barton in the Beans, the gated road between Sutton Cheney and Market Bosworth and Tinsel Lane, Wellsborough.

If anyone has any information on fly-tipping contact the council’s streetscene team on Hinckley 238141.
