Hospital teams up for awards
TEAMS from Leiecster’s tri-hospital sites are up for awards which honour innovation in improving patient care.
The adult inpatient diabetes teams, imaging team and a team promoting school outreach have all made the final 60 shortlisted across 15 categories in the national BMJ (British Medical Journal) awards.
Recognition for the diabetes team comes after work to develop unique roles for staff, provide educational tools and implement a clearer understanding of diabetes related admissions.
For the imaging team the shortlist achievement is thanks to the use of CT scans, rather than the invasive colonoscopy, for detecting colorectal cancer, a diagnostic pathway pioneering in Leicester.
The third shorlisted team work under the banner the Leicester Heartwize Schools Programme which places defibrillators into schools and other community locations followed-up by volunteer medics providing training.
Overall BMJ winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday May 4.
