Traditional names on verge of dying out

-

WE can’t choose them, but we’re stuck with them.

From playground bullies to job interviewers, your name is the first impression that many people get of you throughout your life.

So perhaps that’s the reason why certain names have fallen out of favour with parents.

Online resource BabyCentre has compiled a list of 36 once-popular names - that are yet to be registered on its database in 2017.

Names that have failed to feature include Sharon, Leonard and Carol.

And boy’s names widely-used once upon a time - like Dean and Derek - are also absent.

In the girl stakes, names like Angela, Debra, Diane and Elaine have suffered a decline in popularity.

And Paula also features among those that could soon become extinct.

The baby names that could become extinct are: • Angela • Bertram • Beverley • Cecil • Carol • Clarence • Clive • Cyril • Debra • Diane • Donna • Dean • Doris • Dennis • Derek • Duncan • Elaine • Ernest • Geoffrey • Horace • Joanne • Leonard • Maureen • Malcolm • Nigel • Neville • Paula • Roy • Sally • Sandra • Sharon • Sheila • Tracey • Wendy • Yvonne • Wayne
