Crowds join Good Friday witness walks
CHRISTIANS across the borough joined walks of witness on Good Friday, marking their belief in Jesus’s death on the cross and his resurrection on Easter day.
Churches Together in Hinckley and Burbage hosted a walk in Hinckley which was joined by members from across the town and surrounding villages.
Starting from St Peter’s RC Church on Leicester Road, a procession behind a simple wooden cross made its way to the market place, stopping en route for payers led by the Rev Anthony Thacker of Burbage Congregational Church and Rev Steve Smith of Hinckley Baptist Church, and communal singing.
In the market place, St Mary’s Hinckley and St Mary’s Atherstone Church Lads and Girls Brigade band led the singing of more Easter hymns and songs in a service led by Churches Together chairman John Moore from St John’s Church.
Sadie Jones and Caz Smith from Hinckley Baptist Church sang How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, Rev Angela Tarry from St Mary’s Church read from the Bible, and Father Frank Daly from St Peter’s RC spoke about the role the crowd and religious leaders played in the crucifixion of Jesus and preached a message of hope in Christ today.
Afterwards, people were invited to share refreshments at Hinckley United Reformed Church and to join continued reflective worship at St Mary’s.
Churches Together said thanks were due to Hinckley market traders and management, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s events team, Hinckley BID, volunteers from the area’s churches and everyone who joined in on the day.
In Market Bosworth, members of the town’s three churches - St Peter’s, Our Lady & St Gregory RC, and the Free Church - joined a growing walk of witness as it travelled from Pipistrelle Drive to the market place for an open air service, stopping en route for prayer.
Afterwards people were invited to share refreshments in Market Bosworth Free Church.
