Street star’s skirt in auction

-

A FASHION item as worn by a longstanding soap favourite is the star turn of a fundraising fair being organised by a Hinckley charity.

Hinckley Mencap have managed to nab themselves a skirt worn on ITV’s iconic Coronation Street by the character Liz McDonald, played by Beverley Callard and famed for being the feisty landlady of the Rovers Return.

The white, leather-look mini will be auctioned off as part of the moneymustering event, which also seeks to celebrate the concern’s 60th anniversary.

Charity secretary Kelly Emery said: “We were pleasantly surprised when we got the skirt. We had just got in contact with ITV Coronation Street asking if they might have anything they could donate.

“We got a letter back saying they were inundated with requests but on this occasion were able to help out. The skirt is white leather-look and very Liz McDonald.”

As well as the fully authenticated garment for auction the charity is running a prize draw and various stalls and game activities are planned for the May fair event being held on Saturday May 20.

Donations of new or nearly new items and unwanted gifts are still gratefully received. Individuals and businesses are also asked to consider offering a raffle prize.

The fair takes place at the Hinckley Mencap headquarters on Hill Street running from 10am to 12.30pm.

Kelly said: “All profits will be ploughed back into the society to help local people with learning disabilities..”

Donations can be dropped off at the Mencap offices or the shop.
