Cycle tour launches down A5

-

A HIGH-PROFILE cycling event which was hosted by Hinckley in 2014 will return to its outskirts this June.

The 2017 Women’s Tour takes to the Warwickshire roads starting in Atherstone, just down the A5, for its third stage kicking off on June 9.

The cyclists, including internationally renowned riders, will snake through picturesque countryside to Meriden, home to the National Cyclists’ Memorial built to remember cyclists who died during World War One, before ending in Leamington Spa.

The event, organised by Sweet Spot, also ran through Warwickshire last year. In 2014 Hinckley was one of the locations for the first ever Women’s Tour event.

Launching the second stage the town saw famous faces including Dani King, Laura Trott and Lucy Garner among nearly 100 riders pass through on the 73.7 mile route from Hinckley to Bedford via Lutterworth, Kilworth, Brixworth and Turvey.
