Bosworth fall just short in high-scoring game in penultimate league match

-

JUST like other games this season Market Bosworth were not quick enough to react at the kick off and within the first couple of minutes the Matlock full back was able to join in at the end of a pure three quarters movement and score under the posts for a converted try.

However, Bosworth soon woke up and won a couple of line outs as play progressed towards the Matlock line and with a mirror image of the previous action it was the Bosworth full back, Tom Mayne, who was able to run in under the posts for a try, converted by Rich Harris.

Probably some of the best rugby seen at Cadeby Lane this season followed with Bosworth taking the upper hand enabling Will Clarke to dive over from the back of a powerful scrum.

Rich Harris converted to put Bosworth seven points in front.

The entertainment continued with more exciting rugby to watch when, from another great three-quarter, move Tom Randon went over in the corner for Bosworth’s third try.

From the restart Matlock again caught the home side off guard and ran through for an easy try.

Bosworth recovered quickly and caused Matlock to panic presenting Rich Harris with two successful penalty kicks in front of goal and more spectacular moves from the threes culminating in a second try for Tom Randon and a bonus point for Bosworth.

As half-time approached Matlock started to recover and showed what they could do and following some good handling moves scored their third try.

The second half started much the same as the first half when within minutes of the kick off Matlock ran in two converted tries to get their bonus point and to take the lead.

Bosworth were penalised for not releasing the ball in front of their own posts and conceded another tree points.

But Matlock’s lead was short-lived as Bosworth, playing sevens rugby, with Will Clarke having a superb game at scrum half especially with his kicks for the corner, sent number eight Harry Parkes over to regain the lead.

Rich Harris converted the try for two more points.

Bosworth continued to attack and eventually the referee awarded them a penalty try as a Matlock forward came in at the side of a maul, Rich Harris again kicking the two extra points. Unfortunately Bosworth could not take any advantage from the ensuing yellow card and it was Matlock who put the pressure on starting with a quickly taken penalty near the Bosworth line and going over for a try and conversion.

This was quickly repeated as they had done earlier in the half to take the lead back.

With the referee announcing that play was about to finish Bosworth were adjudged to have pulled the maul down on their own line and Matlock were awarded a penalty try which they converted. Final score Market Bosworth 44 – Matlock 53.

This Saturday Newark are the visitors to Cadeby Lane for the final league game of the season KO 3pm.
