New barriers modified on Barwell Lane
ROAD barriers have been installed in Barwell Lane, to prevent unauthorised vehicles using the road.
The barriers include a gate by the side to allow pedestrian access, and they dip in the middle to allow horses to pass.
A number of residents said mobility scooters and bicycles could not fit through the gate, and that some horse riders had struggled to get over.
The gates at the side have since been modified space.
The platform the barriers stand on have also reportedly been raised, to accommodate riders. since they were first installed.
Barwell resident David Kitto said: “These barriers must have cost a fortune both to buy and install.
“Surely a couple of bollards strategically placed at each end would have done the job at a frac- to give more tion of the cost.”
A spokesman for Leicestershire County Council said: “The barriers are designed to prevent the unauthorised use of Barwell Lane by motor vehicles.
“We’ve also provided an allweather surface to improve pedestrian and cycling routes in the area.”
The County Council also said: “We also consulted with the property owners along the route and householders and farmers with legitimate access requirements will still be able to use the route.
“If people do have any concerns about access, please contact our customer services team on 0116 305 0001 or email highwayscustomerservices@leics. gov.uk.”
Last month Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council cleared up a 20-tonne pile of rubbish flytipped in the lane, costing taxpayers £4,246.
