Last minute cup entry offers hope of silverware to Hinckley AFC
HINCKLEY AFC will play the Polymac Packaging League Cup final at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium after another team were disqualified from the contest.
Having thought their season was finished after the final league match against Heath Hayes at the end of April, the club’s players will now be taking to the field on Monday (May 15) to compete for the League Cup trophy on a Football League ground.
AFC have been reinstated into the competition after St Andrews were found to have played an ineligible player in the second leg of the semifinal at St John’s Park.
The Hinckley outfit will now take on Premier Division champions Alvechurch at the Bescot Stadium on Monday at 7.30pm.
Midland Football League Secretary, Nigel Wood, said: “The Midland Football League Board took an extremely dim view of this particular transgression of League Rule and made the decision that St Andrews be removed from the competition and that Hinckley AFC are reinstated.
“This means that the club will contest the Polymac Packaging League Cup Final at Walsall FC on Monday May 15.”
The club are also putting on a supporters’ coach to transport fans to and from the game, costing £8 per person.
It will have two stops in Hinckley before departing for the game, calling at The Dog and Gun public house at 5pm, and The Greene King Stadium at 5.30pm.
Supporters who wish to book their place on the coach can do so by contacting club director Stephanie McKeown on steph.mckeown@hinckleyafc.org.uk.
Admission prices at the game will see adults get in for just £5, with concessions priced at £3.
