Candidates take part in Q&A ahead of election

-

VOTERS in Hinckley will have the chance to put their questions to candidates standing for the Bosworth constituency in next month’s General Election.

Three days before the nation goes to the polls all four of the Parliamentary candidates vying to represent the borough will be saying why people should vote for them in a two-hour long hustings.

Hundreds of people are expected to be at St Catherine’s Church, Burbage, on Monday June 5, from 7pm to 9pm.

People will be casting their votes in the General Election on Thursday June 8.

Organised by Hinckley, Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton Churches Together, the event is advertised as “your opportunity to hear your local candidates answer questions”.

If anyone would like to ask any questions then they must do so by next Wednesday (May 31).

The Vicar of St Mary’s Church, Hinckley, Rev John Whittaker will chair the proceedings and fire questions submitted by you to all four of the candidates.

They are Green Party candidate Mick Gregg, Labour hopeful Chris Kealey, Michael Mullaney for the Liberal Democrats and David Tredinnick for the Conservatives.

Mr Tredinnick is standing again for the eighth time, after winning seven times in a row. Meanwhile this is third time Mr Mullaney has stood and the second time for Mr Kealey.

Co-organiser Anthony Thacker, Minister of the Burbage Congragational Church, said it was a chance for people in the borough to speak to and hear from the candidates.

“It’s an opportunity for people to ask questions about whatever the main issues of the campaign are. And it’s also a chance to engage with those issues that are aren’t part of the national campaign. Personal issues, such as if there was a debate about euthanasia, you can’t necessarily tell how you’re MP would vote on an issue like that.”

He also added it would be a chance for people to know about what issue they’d bring up if they were MP and could submit a Bill to Parliament.

To ask a question, emailing johnwittaker2010@gmail.com by Wednesday May 31.

There will also be a chance to ask “more spontaneous” questions in the second half of the event.
