Anniversary celebrations for Castle Street store Johnsons

-

AN INDEPENDENT clothing and lingerie store marked 70 years of business with a visit by civic dignitaries and a super celebratory cake.

The anniversary party at Johnsons on Castle Street saw staff, customers and business and community leaders converge to congratulate store owners Gayner and Jane Johnson.

It was their parents, Edward and Joan who first opened the store on Thursday May 15 1947 with their offerings of liberty bodices, corsetry and assorted underwear.

With 70 years of trading behind the family firm the sisters are looking forward to many more.

Gayner said: “This achievement is due to all the wonderful loyal customers, staff, friends and supportive town centre organisations and initiatives, which all help to make Hinckley the thriving town centre it is now while in difficult trading conditions.

“We’d like to thank all the customers for sharing this special weekend with us which started when Bill Cullen, chief executive of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council cut the stunning anniversary cake made by senior customer adviser Joanne Congdon.”

Sharing this moment were Rosemary Wright, president of Hinckley and District Chamber of Trade, Steve Wegerif, manager and director of Hinckley BID (Business Improvement District) with officers and staff of the authority and Town Centre Partnership.

Johnsons is one of Hinckley longest established family firms and specialises in bra fitting and lingerie brands such as Charnos, Freya, Triumph and Lejaby as well as nightwear, swimwear and designer apparel.
