Handwash hero video at trust

-

HOSPITAL chiefs are hoping the power of super heroes and online video will encourage young people to be more handwash aware.

The infection prevention team at Leicester’s three hospital sites have worked with Deb, occupational skincare and hand hygiene specialists, to produce new childfriendly promotional materials, including colouring and activity books, stickers and branded covers for soap dispensers.

And at the heart of the campaign is a video of a little boy called Sam who finds a pair of special glasses which allow him to see germs. After washing the germs off his hands Sam becomes ‘Soaper Hero’.

Other campaign highlights include bright red coverings for hand sanitisers and a full-size poster on the Balmoral building lift doors which take people up to the children’s hospital.

Similar action is also being planned, in a more matter fashion, to promote handwashing among adult patients and visitors. The infection prevention team is looking to develop bedside workbooks.

The video can be watched on Leicester’s Hospitals YouTube channel and more information about hand hygiene is at www. leicestershospitals.nhs. uk/patients/patientwelfare/infectionprevention/clean-yourhands/
