Criticism is OK but stick to issue

-

CRITICISM of the content of my letters is most welcome providing the writers don’t “drift off the point” to the extent that the original heart of the matter vanishes into obscurity.

Terry Bingley needs to be reminded that it is Theresa May who is running scared of the debate whereas Jeremy Corbyn evidently feels confident that he has sufficient academic experience and background for the task in hand. Most certainly I was making the point that a degree in geography, extremely valuable as it may be, is not sufficient foundation for debating complex political and philosophical ideas. Certainly someone with a degree in PPE (philosophy, politics and economics) ought to feel more prepared than one having graduated in geography. Indeed in a recent interview Andrew Marr referred to Mrs May’s answers to questions, rather evasions, as being somewhat robotic and verging on the monotonous. So “may be” you have detected why I’m so suspicious.

Alan Cantrill seems to have provided us with some sort of syllabus in geography, suggesting the disciplines somewhat self-evident importance to government rather than its value to preparing one for open debate. So come on Mrs May, stand up and face the music!
