Justice served for parking
THE article in last week’s Hinckley Times regarding police procedure in the late 1940s brought back memories of my involvement.
I had returned from overseas with the RAF, over 12 months in the Middle East and Malta.
Within a few days of arriving home, my mother sent me down Castle Street in the car to Burchnall’s greengrocers.
I came out of the shop to be accused of parking.
I was given a ticket and duly attended the Magistrates’ Court in Hinckley.
I was asked if there were any extenuating factors before being sentenced and replied about just having returned from abroad, but was told that overseas service was no excuse.
After due consideration I was fined two shillings and six pence (half a dollar). Justice was served.
