Sports groups fund equipment
GROUPS who meet at a well-used community venue have helped raise money for new equipment.
Men, women and children, who attend social and sports sessions at The Stute in Earl Shilton, have held months of fundraising activities to help pay for new, safe floor mats to be used by physical activity groups who meet in the building.
The Stute committee members say the existing mats have given many years of service and need replacing.
Fundraising began in November last year with a cake cake and coffee morning hosted by Julia’s exercise groups which raised £350.
Little Stars Pre-school and Nursery held a jumble sale which raised more than £125 and parent and professional photographer David Hector of Earl Shilton-based Hector Photography took photos of the children and their school aged siblings, raising a further £200.
A Ju Jitsu club raised £54 with a fun Sumo Contest, wearing padded suits and 4th Dan instructor Rob Phelps, working with Ken Hopsley, secured a £200 donation from Dairy Crest.
The Stute’s Snooker League team held a 24-hour snookerthon which raised £550 and two Little Star mums raised £50 on a cake stall at the entrance to the building.
Individual and group donations included a contribution from Jim’s Thursday board games group.
The mats are to be bought shortly.
