Charity store needs volunteers

-

A CHARITY shop in Hinckley is looking for volunteers as it rejigs the store.

New shop manager Cheryl Boot, 45, took over Mind in Castle Street three weeks ago, and is looking for new recruits to get in touch.

Anyone who can spare a couple of hours a day, or each week, is welcome to apply.

Daily tasks include covering the till, putting out stock and steaming clothes donations.

Cheryl has been re-arranging the store to make it brighter and better organised, and currently has eight volunteers.

She said: “It’s quite easy going, there’s not usually a rush. Saturdays can be quite busy.”

The children’s section has been repositioned and the bric-a-brac items put in a more prominent place, where they are selling well.

Cheryl also put posters up in the windows to advertise they are recruiting.

Volunteering at the store can be done as part of an NVQ in Retail Skills or Customer Service, arranged with Derby college.

Ethel Farmer, 78, has been volunteering there for 10 years and does three mornings a week.

She said: “I love it. It gets me out of the house. A lot of people come in just for a chat.”

Cheryl previously worked at Age UK, also on Castle Street and decided to move on to progress in her career.
