AFTER a slow start, catching just four fish after two hours, Lee “Mushy” Farmer romped to victory in Saturdays Lychgate Fisheries Open match. Drawn on peg 41, “Mushy” used both feeder and pole tactics to finish with a superb 105lb 2oz winning catch.

Steve Brindley didn’t catch a fish during the last two hours from peg 54 and had to settle for second place with 58lb 2ozs. Ian Shirley didn’t catch until the last two hours on peg 11, finishing third with 48lb 14ozs. Daniel Eaton came fourth with a 47lb 2oz catch.

Hinckley Tackle dealer Dominic Carino took the honours in Saturday’s Summer League contest at Higham Lane Fishery. Drawn on peg 9 “Dom” started well, landing three fish in the first 15 minutes, catching on pole fished pellet to finish with 76lb 9ozs to win. Andy Findley also used pole and pellet tactics to take second place with 48lb 6ozs. Chris Waite came third with 37lb 11ozs with Dennis Beecham in fourth place with 35lb 6ozs.

Despite a day of heavy rain Maynes Lakes fished well with some excellent catches recorded. Top catch on the day was made by Alby Beehl who finished with 66lb 12ozs taken on pole fished sweet corn from peg 26 on Pool 1. Barwell Tackle dealer Phil Mansfield made the top catch on Pool Three, weighing 33lb 13ozs from peg 43.

It was a battle of the Brindley’s for top spot in Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match. Pegged opposite each other in the canal section it was dad Terry Brindley who took the honours, landing 52lb 4ozs from peg 10 on pole fished pellet, while son Steve had to settle for second place, for the second time this weekend, with a 48lb 14oz catch from peg 15. Steve Oswick came third with 43lb 8ozs while Ricky Arms finished third with a 37lb 12oz catch.

Dave “Stretch” Armstrong won Brookfield’s sunday Open at Stoke Golding. Drawn on peg 3 “Stretch” caught carp and small bream on pole fished pellet to win with 33lb 12ozs. Ian Shirley weighed 28lb to finish second with Stu Campton in third place with a 24lb catch.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Fishery Open was won by Paul Hooson who weighed 54lb 13ozs from peg 7. Jason Baker finished second from peg 17 with 51lb 9ozs while Ian Shirley came third with a 40lb 7oz catch.

Hopes were high for some good catches in Sunday’s Hinckley Angling Clubs Open match at Barwell Lane Fishery, after a week when the lake’s bream feed with over 30 fish averaging over 6lb were report- ed. Unfortunat­ly the match men could catch them, Fred Walker taking the honour’s with just 3lb 14ozs of small roach and bream. revor Mandwell came second with a 2lb 8oz catch of small fish. Mike Samuels took third place with just 15ozs.

Fish at Lychgate Fisheries didn’t seem to mind Wednesday’s rain with the top four anglers all weighing over 50lbs in the mid week Open match. Charlie Thackrah pole fished meat to take the honours with a 67lb 8oz catch of small carp. Dale Jackson came second with 62lb 4oz on pole fished pellet from peg 39. Andy Findley finished third with 59lb 1ozs.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open match was won by Mick Linnett who used a small pellet feeder to catch 51lb 3ozs of carp. Hans Beaur came second with a 45lb 3oz catch while Pete White finished third with 39lb 5ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches every Saturday, draw 9am and sunday, draw 12.30pm.

Brookfield Have an open match at Stoke Golding on Sunday, draw 9am.
