Pair set to walk The Lakes in memory of Anita
TWO next-door neighbours from Hinckley are fulfilling the dying wish of a family friend.
Matt Sutton and Glenn Adams live on Eskdale Road, and have been friends for around 25 years.
They are walking 94 miles across the Lake District, to honour the final request of Anita Aston, a friend of Matt’s sister-in-law.
Glenn and his wife met Anita one night when they went round Matt’s for a meal.
They were hugely impressed by her bravery in fighting cancer, despite being given only months to live
Matt and Glenn had been talking about doing the walk, as they had both recently turned 60, so Matt asked Anita which charity she would like them to do it in aid of.
She suggested LOROS Hospice, as that is where she thought she would spend her last days.
As it happened she died on April 2 in Hinckley Community Hospital, aged 55, but her wish lives on.
The friends will be walking from St Bees to Kirkby Stephen over the course of a week, travelling between eight and 16 miles a day.
Matt’s wife Diane said: “They are proud to do this in Anita’s name and have a large photo of her they will be taking with them.
“They hope to take photographs at each place along the way. Her husband is very pleased they are doing this.”
Glenn runs regularly and has done half marathons, while this will be the first time Matt has done anything like this.
They have been training by doing more walking over the last six months.
So far they have raised around £700.
You can donate to the cause on their Just Giving page.
They will be doing the walk from Saturday June 3 to Friday June 9.
