A SAPCOTE grandmother-of-three has revealed how proud she is to have had her first ever book published at the age of 68.

Dianne Noble, from Stanton Road, said that she hopes to inspire other budding authors after having her book, Oppression, published. She has since gone on to publish two more.

The talented writer, who has three granddaughters, called on her own experience of travel to tell the tale of Beth, who prevents the abduction of a young girl in a North Yorkshire town, but is powerless to stop her subsequent forced marriage.

Eventually, Beth travels to Egypt to search for the girl, Layla, and finds her living in the City of the Dead.

Dianne, who was inspired to write about Egypt after visiting as a child and recalling that it “was the first place interesting enough to get my head out of a book”, said that she has called on her life experiences her write.

The former English teacher received 32 rejections before she got her contract, and said she hoped to inspire many others.

She added: “I was born into a service family and brought up in Singapore in the 1950s, before it gained its independence.

“Since then, with sons grown and flown, I have continued to wander all over the world, keeping extensive journals of my experiences.

“Fifteen different schools and an employ- to help ment history which includes The British Embassy Bahrain, radio presenter, café proprietor on Penzance seafront, and a goods picker in an Argos warehouse have resulted in rich seams to mine for inspiration.

“I’ve always written, from editing the school magazine to short stories and letters to magazines, but it was only on retirement that I had the time for a novel.

“My writing is atmospheric, steeped in the smells, sights and sounds of exotic locations.

“I was thrilled to receive a publishing contract after 32 rejections! My days now are filled with promoting my three books and getting the fourth ready for publication.

“My books all deal with locations like India, Egypt, Morocco and I love to share my experiences of these countries via my books.”
