Cricket fundraiser for armed forces charity
AN ANNUAL charity cricket day returns to Lutterworth on Friday June 16.
The event debuted last year in celebration of the life of a young man Jack Patrick who died in 2015 from a rare disease.
More than £8,000 was raised for Help For Heroes, a charity close to Jack’s heart. This year organisers are hoping to beat that total with Help for Heroes again being the beneficiary.
Promising fun for all the family the event will feature three cricket matches from 1.30pm with local teams playing along with the Help for Heroes Crick- et Club whose members are all wounded servicemen and women.
Jack Patrick was 20 when he died on November 1 just a week after being taken ill with what his family thought was a chest infection.
The young man, who worked in marketing for his family’s company Notts Sport Ltd, had a rare, fatal disease called goodpasture syndrome, which leads to rapid lung and kidney failure.
Notts Sports Ltd and Lutterworth Cricket Club are spearheading the memorial event.
Jack’s dad, Shaun, said: “When jack died and through all the upheaval that bought we said as a family we could raise money in his name because he loved the charity so much.
“We thought it was the best legacy for Jack. The community really bought into the idea.
“Fundraising is helping us all get through Jack’s passing. We want to continue with it and support the armed forces while keeping Jack’s memory alive.”
As well as the cricket day various other events are planned and Shaun, along with four friends has signed up to do the Help for Heroes trek in Cambodia in March 2018.
