Pesky pike pluck catches from lines to hamper competitio­n

STEVE Brindley completed a weekend double at Lychgate Fisheries following up his win on Saturday by taking the honours in Sunday’s event.

Fishing pellet “Up in the water” on peg 37 Steve scored a runaway win with a superb 111lb 12oz catch of carp.

Andy Atkins pole fished corn on peg 44 to finished second with 57lb 4ozs.

Terry Brindley came third with a 54lb 6oz catch on pole fished meat while Liam Yeomans used pellet feeder tactics on peg 50 to finish fourth with a 46lb 4oz catch.

Saturday’s Summer League contest at Higham Lane Fishery was won by the “Margin master” Rich Wells, who fished each side on peg 26 to finish well clear with a 114lb 9oz catch.

Chris Waite came second with 83lb 110zs while Dennis Beecham continued his good form taking third place with 74lb 9ozs.

Steve Brindley became the first angler to qualify for Lychomania 2018, when he won Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open.

In one of the closest ever matches Steve took the honours by just 2ozs.

Pole fished meat up to the island resulted in a 36lb catch, which was just enough to beat Dennis Reynolds who had to settle for second place with a 35lb 14oz catch.

Guy Hope finished third with 32lb 14ozs.

There was also a close finish to Brookfield’s Sunday Open at Stoke Golding where just 3lb separated the top three.

Leading the way from peg 22 was David Sutton with a 38lb 4ozs of carp and bream.

Guy Hope finished second with 37lb 8oz catch with Stu Campton taking third place with a 35lb 4oz catch.

There’s no match this Sunday, the next one is on June 18, draw 9am.

There was a blast from the past at Higham Lane Fishery when Steady Eddie Sharrad won the Thursday Open.

Drawn on peg five, Eddie used method feeder tactics to land 39lb 15oz of carp.

John Varley weighed 36lb 11ozs from peg 13 to take second place while Dave Massey finished third with a 24lb 9oz catch.

After a slow start to Wednesday’s Maynes Lakes Open, Alan Wilson got the fish feeding on pellets to finish as top weight on the day with a 46lb 11oz catch.

Result: pool one, first: Alan Wilson peg 32; pool two, first: Alby Beehl peg 10, 29lb.

Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match was almost a carp-free event with only eight caught, as the fish had their minds on other things.

Steve Hill took the hon- ours with a 18lb 8oz catch from peg five.

Mark Jaques was second with 14lb 14ozs and Dave Hughes came third with just 7lb 14ozs.

Anglers struggled in Hinckley Angling Club’s Open match at Barwell Lane Fishery.

Pike were a menace, striking at hooked fish before they could be landed, while small fish were reeled in at speed.

Top catch on the day was made by Mark Millington who landed just 1lb 4ozs of small roach to win.

David Baxendale was second with 15ozs while Steve Green finished third with a 14ozs catch.

Higham Lane’s Wednes- day Bag Up open match was won by Mark Ward who pole fished pellet on peg 13 to weigh 55lb 11ozs.

Dean Hughes came second with a 28lb 7oz catch. Kev Milne finished in third place with a 22lb 9oz catch.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open match was won by Mick Linnett with a 38lb 1oz catch from peg 10.

Paul Cayless finished second from peg six with a 37lb 6oz catch.

Entries are now being taken for the annual Shackersto­ne Teams of Four contest which will take place on June 18.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches/ Lychomania qualifiers every Saturday draw 9am and Sunday draw 12.30pm.

Hinckley Angling Club hold the final match of their Open match season on Sunday, draw 9am.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have a Lychomania qualifier/ Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
