THE STREETS of Burbage will be filled with playful music and colour this weekend as the annual carnival takes place.

Taking as their theme ‘The Circus’, floats will be parading in a circuit and heading towards Britannia Fields from noon.

Two marching bands will be in action, one from St Mary’s Hinckley and the other from St Mary’s Barwell while Mys2dio will be doing two routines and leading the procession.

The two-mile route goes along Windsor Street, Coventry Road, Pyeharps Road, Sketchley Road, Boyslade Road, Forresters and Hinckley Road.

On the royal float will be the two 2017 princesses Olivia Bevington, 10, and Freya Wynne, nine, who both attend Burbage Junior School.

The princesses have already been in action, handing out prizes at the dog show on Burbage Common Open Day in May.

The organisers decided to have two princesses this year as they struggled to get male applicants.

Entertainment at tannia Fields will Brialso Lynn Elkington.

Organiser Sonja Howitt said: “We’re really looking forward to it.

“Everyone taking part is alredy excited. The one to watch will be the marching bands.”

There’s plenty of variety in the food and drink on offer, including the new Ginger Barista’s mobile cofee shop, complete with cakes and pastries.

A burger stall will be there, as well as the Italian Stallion, serving up its its wood-fired pizzas.

Vintage tea and cakes will also be available for the more refined guest.

Prizes will be handed out for the best floats and performances.

Six Burbage charities have received £1,500 in donations from the event. Burbage Community Arts Festival, 1st Burbage Guides, Burbage Cricket Club, Hinckley and Burbage Lions and Hinckley AFC were each given £200.

Burbage Infants School had an extra £500 boost which may go towards gardening projects.
