Riders smashpersonal records as season gets off to flying start

-

TIME trialling season got off to a smashing start this year for Hinckley Cycle Racing Club (HCRC).

The weekly Tuesday night events have seen some new faces in amongst the regulars and there’s been more than 40 participants on several weeks already.

Various riders have achieved personal best times and course personal bests since the season began on April 4.

These include Simon Law who recorded a course personal best time of 21:59 on May 2, Mark Stewart recorded a personal best of 24:31 on May 9 and Llewellyn LeGant recorded a time of 30:47 as his first ride on April 25.

There have also been some fast females competing each week this year, including Claire Davies who was the fastest female on three occasions with her fastest time being 27:15, then April Tacey rode a very impressive time of 23:49, Emma Hill recorded a personal best of 28:40 and Amy Mann recorded a time of 33:37 for her first ride all on May 9.

On Sunday May 7 HCRC hosted its first Open 4-Up Team Time Trial which saw 27 teams of four riders - including seven all-female teams - took to the 25-mile course for this charity team time trial in aid of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre.

Many parts of the county were well represented with teams from Lutterworth Cycles, Warwickshire Ladies CC and the Royal Marines showing their support.

The HQ at Wolvey Primary School was a hive of activity on the morning of May 7 as 108 riders prepared for a monumental event in Hinckley Cycle Racing Club’s 2017 calendar.

Spirits were high amongst the competitors as both the weather and the wind cleared to give fantastic conditions.

There were swift times across the board from all the teams with ten breaking the hour.

It was extremely close in the men’s competition with only two minutes separating first and third but Lutterworth cycles claimed the vic- tory with an amazing time of 49:54, followed closely by Team Bottrill in both second and third with times of 50:44 and 51:42 respectively – so a great result for them.

It was also close in the women’s race with the Beeston Cycling Club having an eventful ride but still achieving a time of 1:07:42. Second and third place for the women was scooped up by riders from Hinckley CRC.

A spokesman for the HCRC said: “Congratulations to the winners as well as everyone who took part. It was also great to see some muchneeded funding raised for The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre.

“During the prize presentation ceremony riders were treated to a truly inspirational speech by Luke Wigman – former SAC and ambassador for The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre.”
