Hornets making a splash in the hunt for victory medals

-

IT HAS been a busy few months for Hinckley Hornets swimmers who have been competing across the country in the search of medals and fast times.

All the fastest swimmers in the region took part in the East Midland Championships.

Carys O’Reilly won gold and did the clean sweep in the 14-year-old 50, 100 and 200 metre breaststroke races.

She has now qualified as the fastest in her age group in the UK for the British Summer Nationals in July.

Carys also got medals in the 200 and 400 Individual medleys.

Fellow hornet and Saint Martins pupil, Cailin Hancock also won gold in the 13-year-old 50m breaststroke final and also made the final of the 100m breast- stroke as well.

Joel Weston showed his form by winning the gruelling 200m butterfly with Kieran Bott and Austin Johns both winning bronze medals in the 200m and 400m free respectively as well as Kieran and Carys helping the City of Leicester team win medals in 14-16 year old relays.

Over 40 Hornets made their annual pilgrimage to the Haden Hill Open Meet in Wolverhampton and come back with a haul of over 75 medals.

Contributing to coming third overall club with Gold Medals were Grace Vann, Hannah Lynch, Hannawell, Storey, Daniel Stockwell, Jenson Johns, Will Beasley, Bailey Bedder, Susie Jones, Cailin Hancock, Molly Blazye, Will Parsons and George Moore.

The medal winning was not over as the following week a number of swimmers made their way to the City of Leicester Open Meet in Braunstone.

Kieran Bott, Sam Munroe, James Le Grice, Carys O’Reilly, Joshua Munroe and Will Beasley all managed to pickup gold medals in a variety of events with Gabriel Murphy, Jamie Kettle, Aimee O’Reilly and Will Parsons picking up silver and bronze medals.

In the Summer Diddy League’s interclub galas which is a competion for nine-12 year old swimmers, Hinckley A Team look to have secured their division 1 status with a third place and a fifth place against tough opposition in Rounds 1 and 2.

Meanwhile the B Team have had two fourth places in the Leicestershire diddy League which included a maiden gala win for nineyear old Cara Atkinson.

It is now just over a year since Hinckley Hornets started training in the new leisure centre and are certainly reaping the benefits.
