Great comeback for Dennis after earlier disappoint­ment

AFTER missing out last week by just 2ozs on qualifying for the 2018 Lychomania final, Dennis Reynolds made no mistake in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open.

Drawn on peg 32, Dennis pole fished sweet corn to catch 84lb 4ozs to reach the final while John Varley fished a pellet feeder on peg 52 to take second place with a 61lb 8oz catch.

Colin Chapman finished third with a 50lb 2oz catch on pole fished pellet and Ian Shirley was fourth with a 49lb 14oz catch.

Hinckley’s Max Higgott took the honours in Sunday’s Packington Sommers Open. Fished on Molands Lake Max used method feeder tactics with meat hook bait to land 128lb 11ozs of carp and F1’s.

Andy Findley got among the fish again, winning Higham Lane’s Thursday Open with a 97lb 110z catch on pellet feeder tactics from peg 12.

John Varley used the same method to catch 68lb 9ozs for second place while Steady Eddie Sharrad finished third with a 43lb 15oz catch.

There was a tight finish to Maynes Lakes midweek open match with just over 1lb between the top two.

Craig Arms took the honours with a 36lb 3oz catch on pole fished worm from peg 24 on pool one.

Results: pool one, section one; Craig Arms; section two: Alan Grewcock, 35lb from peg 33; pool two, section three: Chris Edwards 33lb 15oz from peg 8; section four; Johnathan Harvey 18lb 1oz from peg 18.

Kevin Redman went two bite-less hours before starting to catch in Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open.

Drawn on peg 15, Kevin caught steadily for the rest of the match to finish with a winning 45lb 14ozs. Runner up Steve Zseli pole fished sweet corn to catch 29lb 14ozs from peg 32.

Dave Reynolds came a close third, just 8ozs behind with a 29lb 6oz catch with Ian Shirley finishing fourth with 27b 14ozs.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday evening “Bag Up” Open was won by Martin Ireland who pole fished pellet on peg 19 to catch 61lb 11ozs.

Dean Hughes came second with a 48lb 11oz catch with Andy Stewart in third place with 44lb 11ozs.

Guy Hope pole fished paste to score a run away win in Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match. Drawn on peg 34 Guy landed 53lb 8ozs to finish well clear of the rest.

Apart from the winner it was a close match as just 6ozs separated the next three anglers.

Alby Beehl finished second with a 17lb 6oz catch, Lee farmer was third with 17lb 4ozs while Danny Ross came fourth with a level 17lb catch.

There was also a comfortabl­e win for Dave Goldby in Hinckley Angling Club’s open match at their Barwell Lane Fishery.

Dave used feeder tactics to catch five decent bream and some small fish to win with a 21lb 15oz catch.

David Baxendale finished along way behind in second place with a 2lb 15oz catch of small fish with Fred Walker making a similar catch weighing 2lb 4ozs for third place.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Measham hold their first match of the new canal season this Saturday, draw 1.30pm at the Globe Inn, Snarestone.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches/Lychomania qualifiers on Saturday, draw 9am and on Sunday, draw 12.30pm.

Brookfield have an open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Shackersto­ne’s Annual Teams of Four Championsh­ip takes place on Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Shackersto­ne start their Members Tuesday evening series on June 20, draw 5.30pm at the Rising Sun.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open/ Lychomania qualifier every Wednesday, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Measham start their Wednesday evening open match series on June 21, draw 5.30pm at the Globe Inn.

Higham Lane Fishery have their Wednesday evening Bag Up Open, draw 5.30pm.
