HINCKLEY town centre exploded with colour last week for the Loros Colourfun Run Mile 2017.

Crowds cheered as a record 1,400-plus people raced around the circuit, being doused with different colours of paint powder by onlookers.

Participants of all ages donned rainbow afros, sparkly hats and fluorescent frilly skirts for the multi-coloured fundraiser.

Among the crowd was Loros patron and Hollyoaks star Charlie Clapham, fresh back from his trip to America.

He said: “When the team asked me if I wanted to join them, I couldn’t be more excited that it tied in so well with my trip back home.

“How could I resist getting messy for Loros by getting showered in a colour? The brighter the better if you ask me.”

Charlie hosted the new grand finale ‘colour rave’ in the market square, when the already brightly-attired runners threw a final shower of paint over each other.

American footballers from Hinckley-based Leicester Falcons took part, wearing their full kit of pads and helmets.

Two PCSOs patrolling the event also had a colourful makeover.

Loros fundraising lead Laura Betts said: “Our Colourfun Mile is always such a huge hit with our supporters.

“This year’s Colourfun Mile was bigger and better than ever before, as we added the new glitter station to the route.”

The two-lap race started and finished on the corner of Station Road and Market Place, with each runner presented with a medal.

Leicester’s Sambando percussion band provided entertainment and built up the atmosphere for the run.

Ozzy O’Shea, the new mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, handed out medals at the finish line, and gave a speech thanking those who took part. The runners also had the opportunity to sign up to the hospice’s new fundraising scheme, The Hundred Heroes’ Club.

The club works by 100 supporters signing up to raise between them £10,000 for the hospice, which is enough to pay for the specialist nurses for two weeks.

All proceeds go to Loros hospice. You can find out more about the event on the Loros website.

Even the long arm of the law got covered in paint....
