RELATIVES of popular musician Brian Mason have drawn winning raffle tickets to raise money for Loros in his memory.

Trombonist Mr Mason from Sapcote was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 and died at home in October last year, aged 80, after receiving treatment at the Leicesterbased hospice.

To show their thanks to Loros, his family shared Brian’s story to help promote the organisation’s annual Bonanza Raffle, which generated nearly £90,000 for the cause.

Brian’s widow Jean, his sons Kevin, Rob and Jonathan, daughter-in-law Marie and grandson Charlie joined Loros chief executive officer John Knight for the official draw.

The winner, who lives in London, was to receive £10,000, with runner up prizes of £500, £250 and five of £50.

Mr Mason’s son Jonathan, a fellow musician who also lives in Sapcote, said: “What a terrific amount of money raised, or ‘splendid’ rather, which is what dad would have said. “It has been fantastic for us to be able to share our story to help raise such a huge amount of money for the hospice that cared for dad.”

He added: “On an individual and family level, this was all about thanking the whole LOROS team for the work they do.

“While no one organisation can change the world globally, LOROS certainly changes the world for many individuals and their families.”

Loros lottery manager Liz Singleton said: “We are totally overwhelmed with the amount raised in this year’s Bonanza Raffle.

“It was lovely to have Brian’s family at the draw and we cannot thank them enough for supporting this year’s raffle.”
