SHACKERSTO­NE’S Annual Teams of Four Championsh­ip attracted yet another good turn out.

The “Hinckley Carpers” side lead by Kev Milne took the team title finishing with ten section points.

Attleborou­gh Angling finished second with 12 points while the Ashby Match squad came third with 13 points.

Top angler on the day was Barwell’s Colin Lane with a 5lb 15oz catch of bream.

Ian Stone came second with 4lb 14ozs with 86-year old Dick Ensor finishing third with a 3lb 8oz catch.

Section winners were: Section A: Ian Stone; Section B: Ian Plant, 2lb 9ozs; Section C: Pete Billington, 2lb 8ozs; Section D: Colin Lane.

Despite the sourching sun and some spawning fish there were some superb catches in Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Afternoon Open. Completing a weekend double was the inform Steve Brindley who finished well clear with a 154lb 12oz catch of carp to 11lbs and that was after spending the first 40 minutes without a bite.

Runner up Carl Potter recorded his first ever 100lb match catch, using a candle and floating baits to weigh 105lb 6ozs.

Terry Brindley swapped between paste and pellet baits to take third place with a 91lb 14oz catch. Andy Atkins finished fourth with 87lb 4ozs.

After a lean spell by his own high standards Hinckley’s Max Higgott is back with a bang, winning his last three matches.

After success in last week’s Packington Open, Max fished the Saturday Open match at Meadowland­s.

Drawn on Warren Pool he pole fished maggots to land a winning 95lb 6ozs.

On Sunday he returned to Packington, where much to the delight (?) of his fellow anglers he drew the same peg that he’d won off the previous week and yet again he took the honours using method feeder tactics with meat hook baits to catch 140lb 11ozs and complete his hat trick.

Higham Lane’s Saturday Summer League contest produced another massive winning weight for Andy “The Fin” Findley.

Drawn on peg 13 he pole fished pellet to land 184lb 7ozs. Chris Waite finished second with 82lb 9ozs, Dean Hughes took third place with 56lb 2ozs. Jim Spradbury came fourth with 38lb 10ozs.

The first match of the new canal season was Measham’s Merrick Cup Open fished along the Green Lane section on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Callaghan caught one bream and some small fish to win with 1lb 10ozs. Paul Trimbrell was second with a 1lb 5oz catch with Phil Hicks finishing third with 1lb 2ozs.

Venue expert Steve Brindley took the honours in Lychgate Fisheries Saturday Open match. Drawn on peg 43 Steve pole fished pellet to catch 75lb 10ozs of carp. Guy Hope came second with 58lb 8ozs, Bill finished third with 48lb 2ozs.

Ian Shirley won Thursday’s Higham Lane Open with just 35lb 11ozs as spawning fish proved almost impossible to catch. Paul Cook caught two big carp in the last 30 minutes to take second place with 22lb 9ozs. Clive Oliver also caught two fish for third place with 17lb.

The hot weather also made sport difficult in Maynes Lakes Wednesday Open match. Wayne Harris managed to tempt a few fish on bread to win with a 34lb catch.

Results: pool one, Section 1: Tom Watt, 26lb 6ozs; Section 2: Phil Neep, 28lb 12ozs; pool two, Section 3: Wayne Harris; Section 4: Colin Bent, 23lb 14ozs.

Mick Wilson qualified for Lychomania 2018 after winning Lychgate’s Midweek Open with a 50lb 8oz catch. Paul Bates finished second with 35lb 2ozs while Mark Jaques was third with a 24lb 12oz catch.

Brookfield’s open match at Stoke Golding was won by Dave “Stretch” Armstrong. Drawn on peg 3 Stretch landed 50lb 8ozs of carp. Mark Ward came second with 26lb 8ozs while Ray Lewis took third place with 21lb 6ozs.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday evening Bag Up Open was won by Lee Farmer with a 65lb 9oz catch from peg 24. Mark ward weighed 53lb to finish second with John Varley, Dean Hughes and Dom Carrino all weighing 47lb 8oz to tie for third place.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open was won by Hans Bauer with 22lb 3ozs. Pete White weighed 19lb 12ozs to take second place with Mick Linnett finishing third with a 18lb 11oz catch.

Higham Lane have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open/ Lychomania qualifier matches every Saturday, draw 9am and Sunday’s draw 12.30pm.

Shackersto­ne have a members match on Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Shackersto­ne have a members’ Tuesday evening match, draw 5.30pm at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open/ Lychomania match on Wednesday, draw 9am.

Measham have an open evening match at Snarestone every Wednesday, draw 5.30pm at the Globe.

Higham Lane have a Wednesday evening Bag Up Open, draw 5.30pm.
