Car clean raises cash for charity

-

BOSSES swapped desks and delegation for sponges and soapsuds to clean colleagues’ cars during a week of fundraising for the business volunteering charity Leicestershire Cares.

The motor makeover treatment was delivered to 20 vehicles by Hinckley and Rugby Building Society management including chief executive Chris White and fellow director Andrew Payton.

The venture was part of the first ever Leicestershire Cares Week, which saw firms across the county devote time to boosting the coffers of the concern.

Hinckley and Rugby staff also took part in a table football tournament and bought tickets for a raffle with a prize of an extra day of holiday.

Carla Loughrey, the Leicestershire Cares champion at Hinckley and Rugby, said: “Getting your manager to clean your car proved a very popular way to donate. There was understandably huge interest in winning a day off work. Our staff are always keen to support all the wonderful things Leicestershire Cares does.”

Society staff are involved with various Cares projects including mentoring school pupils to improve numeracy and literacy as well as community team challenges and the annual Christmas appeal for the underprivileged.

In total society staff raised £500 for the Leicestershire Cares Week appeal.
