Busy weekend for fire and rescue crews

FIRE crews were kept busy with a series of incidents over the weekend. A fivevehicl­e pile-up on the M69 caused tailbacks on Friday.

The crash, just before rush hour, involved three cars, one van and a light goods vehicle. Crews from Hinckley and Southern were alerted at around 4.15pm.

Paramedics were on scene and dealt with five casualties, all of whom had managed to get out of their vehicles.

The incident closed off the eastbound carriagewa­y between J2 and J3 with five mile queues reported. It was several hours before traffic returned to normal.

Earlier in the day Hinck- ley firefighte­rs dealt with a car blaze at Pingle Lane Earl Shilton. Reports came in at around 10.20am. Arsonists are thought to have set the vehicle ablaze.

Two firefighte­rs wearing breathing apparatus ised a hose reel to douse the flames.

On Saturday at around 1.15pm a crew from Southern station were called to a two car collision at the Grove Farm triangle in Enderby.

The vehicles were made safe by firefighte­rs. The collision had caused damage to traffic lights.

Later a two car collision on Main Street Nailstone was dealt with by firefighte­rs from Coalville and Atherstone.

Calls came in at around 5.25pm with an initial report of a woman being trapped in one of the vehicles.

Cutting equipment was readied and the air ambulance was alerted, however, the casualty was able to get herself out of the car and was assessed by paramedics who determined she did not need hospital treatment
