Former cricket captain remembers teammates

-

I should like to give my congratulations to all of the members of Hinckley Amateur Cricket Club for their great start to the season.

I myself played for the club for many, many years and was captain for quite a few of them. I am now 91-years old and my interest is still in what has been achieved over the years.

In my playing days we had two teams, but I notice now the club has grown quite a lot with a first and second XI plus junior teams as well.

The club was formed in the 1930’s and is still going strong. It has always been a happy club.

In my day we were known as a family club because so many names were the same (Baileys, Ron and David; Chamberlains, Arthur, Ken, David, Geoff, and Paul; Kendricks Earnie and some of his family who I believe are still with the club; Sanders, Mick, Ray and David; Pembertons, Stuart and Paul).

Remembering some of the older players who are still with us: Ken Bates, David Bailey, Gordon George, David Sanders, Ken Pickering, all the Chamberlains and Pembertons already quoted, plus Bob Beardsmore, John Britten, Adey Wood, Mervin Nash, Andy Armstrong, and Mick Burton.

My brother Ken and myself are still life vicepresidents and wish the Amateurs much success in the future.
