THERE was a good turn out for Saturdays Lychgate Fisheries Open contest and the fish responded as the top ten anglers all weighed over 40lbs! Leading the way was Burton’s Pete Jupp.

Drawn on peg 20, Pete struggled to land most of the fish he’d hooked, but a switch to the margins at 1pm produced a run of fish to give him a match winning 73lb 12oz catch. Dennis Reynolds pole fished sweet corn on peg 15 to catch 65lb 4ozs for second place while Colin Chapman pole fished paste to take third place with a 62lb 10oz catch.

Hinckley tackle dealer Dominic Carino won Saturday’s Higham Lane Summer League series with a 68lb 9oz catch of carp on pole fished pellet from peg 17. Dave Hurlston used pellet feeder tactics to take second place with 63lb 11ozs.

Inform Rich Wells was third with a 58lb 7oz catch with Dennis Beecham finishing fourth with 54lb 9ozs.

Tuesday evening’s Shackersto­ne Members’ contest had anglers checking the record books as for the first time in a long while everybody caught and the top three all weighed over 5lbs. Leading the way was veteran towpath trotter John Gamble who landed a 4lb tench and some small bream to finish with 6lb 5ozs. Doug Dimbleby, pegged at the other end of the match length thought that he’d won it after weighing a very respectabl­e 5lb 12ozs of small bream. Mick Smith only finished third with a 5lb 3oz catch! After three matches John Gamble leads the series with 26 points, Keith Brown is second with 20 while Hubert Noar has 18 for third.

Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match was a close contest with just 2oz separating the top two. Steve Oswick took the honours from peg 15 with a 60lb 6oz catch on pole fished sweet corn. Rich Wells finished second, using similar tactics on peg 32 to finish with 60lb 4ozs, Andy Atkins used pellet feeder tactics on peg 25 to weigh 26lb for third place while Carl Potter came fourth with a 24lb 12ozs.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday evening contest was won by Paul Cook with a 48lb 11oz catch on pole fished pellet from peg 22. Craig Randle was on next peg 21 finished just one fish short with a 47lb 9oz catch. Lee Farmer came third with a 42lb 7oz catch.

Darryl Moore caught from the start to win Maynes Lakes Mid Week Open. Darryl used a method feeder on the pole to place his bait tight to the island, landing 53lb 4oz of carp. Results; Pool One, section 1; Johnathan Harvey 47lb 7oz from peg 28. Section 2; Darryl Moore from peg 37. Pool Two, section 3; Chris Edwards, 23lb 4oz from peg 8.Section 4; Alby Beehl 18lb from peg 19.

New, super accurate scales produced the closest finish to Measham’s Walter Memorial Open match fished on the Globe length of the canal at Snarestone. Just eight drams split the top two. Andy Smith caught two bream and some small fish to weigh 4lb 4oz 12 drams while Andy Morton included a 2lb perch in his runner up’s 4lb 4oz 4dram catch. John Wainwright came third with 3lb 4ozs of bream.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match was won by “Steady” Eddie Sharrad with a 65lb 11oz catch on the method from peg 7. Dave Massey came second with a 58lb 6oz catch with Dave Hurlston finishing third with 49lb 9ozs.

Pete White won Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open match for the second successive week. Drawn on peg 31 Pete pole fished paste to land 45lb 7ozs. Mick Linnett came second with 27lb 10oz from peg 6. Paul Cayless finished third with a 17lb 10oz catch.

Meashams latest Wednesday evening contest was won by Pete Allwood with a bream and small fish catch weighing 2lb 8ozs, Doug Dimbleby and Phil Hicks tied for second place both weighing 1lb 11oz 8 drams. John Johnson was third with 1lb 1ozs. At the half way stage Doug Dimbleby leads with 60 points, John Johnson has 58 and Phil Hicks has 50.

Sport was hard for the Plough Angling Club’s second Summer Aggregate match on a desperatel­y low and clear River Avon at Ryton. Vince Kingham manage to tempt 6lb 3ozs of small chub to win. Ian Stringfell­ow caught 3lb 2oz of small fish for second place with Mick Durrant taking third place with 2lb 12ozs.

Higham Lane have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches / Lychomania qualifiers on Saturday, draw 9am and on Sunday draw 12.30pm.

Measham have an open “Away” day match on the Coventry canal at Alvercote. Draw 8am at the Sam Barlow Pub by the canal.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Shackersto­ne have a members contest every Tuesday evening, draw 5.30pm at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match / Lychomania Qualifier every Wednesday, draw 9am.

Measham have an open evening match on the canal at Snarestone every Wednesday, draw 5.30pm at the Globe.
