Sounds of summer come to Twycross zoo

SUMMER sounds come to Twycross Zoo once more for musical Saturdays arranged with the help of Hinckley’s JAM music school.

The evening events launch on Saturday July 22 and feature for the next four Saturdays showcasing talent as sourced by Rachel and Dave Carter who run JAM - Junior Academy of Music.

They have brought together an eclectic mix of artists to delight spectators who for £5 can enjoy the concert as well as tour the zoo grounds. Tickets can be purchased on the gate from 5pm.

The first evening will see Mowtown outfit The Tones take to the stage, featuring the soulful voice of Ellen backed by a tight unit with sax and keyboards.

They are joined by Talking Bird Collective, performing their take on many jazz, blues, funk and rock pieces. They were at last year’s Summer Sundown and are back by popular demand.

Saturday July 29 sees foottappin­g ska, fused with folk, jazz and rock as showcased by The Social Ignition.

Regulars on the Hinckley live scene their set will including well-known covers as well as their own original compositio­ns

Heading into August and on Saturday 5 it’s back to the soaring 70s and erudite 80s with The 70s Connection and fivepiecer, Saint.

Listen to tunes from such icons as The Eagles, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Stealers Wheel, T Rex, David Bowie followed by fabulous songs by Prince, Duran Duran, Toto, Michael Jackson and more.

Finishing off the summer sundowners on Saturday August 12 is a brass band spectacula­r with the Wigston Brass Band playing tunes from popular film, shows and theatre favourites - including Bohemian Rhapsody, a Les Misérables selection, the Best of Bond and many more.

After delighting crowds last year, zoo bosses were keen on inviting them back to entertain fans old and new.
