Matthew takes top role
A MAN from Barwell has been appointed as chair of the Leicester Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Centre.
Mathew Hulbert previously served as vice chair of the group, which was founded more than 40 years ago to serve LGBT people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
It is run as a charity by a board of trustees, and is one of the principal LGBT community organisations in the East Midlands.
The centre provides a safe venue and support to combat social isolation, exclusion and discrimination facing LGBT people.
Mathew said: “It is an honour to become the chair of the centre, which does fantastic and important work across the city, Leicestershire and Rutland, including in Hinckley and Bosworth.
“We’ve come a long way in terms of increased equality in recent years but there is still much more to do and we’re dedicated to ensuring the voice of our communities is heard and our needs are met.”
Mathew also chairs Barwell Carnival Association and the Hinckley and Bosworth Fairtrade Forum.
