Road closure to cause delays
A MONTH-LONG road closure in Nuneaton is expected to hit major arteries into Hinckley as drivers look to alternative routes.
The A47 Hinckley Road and The Long Shoot and the A5 junctions serving Higham and Fenny Drayton will bear the brunt of the extra traffic.
Motorists will be forced into the diversions thanks to the shutdown of the A444 Weddington Road between Church Lane and Lower Farm Way in Nuneaton from next Monday (July 24) until Sunday August 20.
The closure is to allow for groundworks servicing a new housing estate off Weddington Road.
A spokesman for Warwickshire County Council said: “The works are required to enable a new sewer connection for the Barratt Homes residential development site and for road resurfacing.
“The sewer works involves cutting a large trench in the middle of the road as it cannot be accommodated within the existing footway due to the presence of other cables and pipes and also tree roots.
“The works are being managed on site by Warwickshire County Council (Design Services).
“Due to the extensive nature of the works a road closure is unavoidable but has been planned to take place in the school holidays. HGVs will be directed along the A4254 Eastboro Way and the A444 into and out of Nuneaton to avoid the low bridge on the A5 near Dodwells Roundabout.
Traffic signs warning motorists of the closure are being put up and all diversion routes will be clearly signed. Information on the closure can be found on warwickshire. gov.uk/roadworksmap
The county spokesman added: “Warwickshire County Council would like to apologise in advance to residents, businesses and the travelling public for the disruption this closure will cause.
“We have worked with the contractor to plan the work so that delays can be kept to a minimum and hope that the road closure can be lifted earlier than planned.”
